HUB PROGRAM
Building Networks of Support
The HUB Program brings together BGEs across the country to uplift, nurture, and create a network of support amongst one another.
Launched in January 2023, it is BGE’s place-based initiative that connects our digital community to our physical one. By intentionally building ecosystems of care, our HUBs are indirectly building sustainable pathways to retain and attract Black talent within the environmental movement. Most importantly, the HUB program is reshaping the environmental landscape while spreading environmental action across the country

HUB EVENT SPOTLIGHTS
BGE Professor Meet & Greet, Boston: Our HUB Lead, René, has launched a series called ‘BGE Professor Meet & Greet.’ These events included a night of networking, dinner, and presentations from Black women professors in diverse environmental fields from universities across Boston.
Rest Up Starved Rock State Park Hike, Chicago: Our HUB Lead, Cara, led a free community hike to Starved Rock State Park in Illinois, which provided free bus transportation for over 50 attendees. With over 13 miles of trails, attendees were able to lean into restoration and sensory rest while connecting with this historic landmark.
Rethink Food Volunteering, New York City: Our NYC HUB Lead, Cori, coordinated a volunteer day with Rethink Food. This volunteer day gave back to communities in NYC facing food insecurity by making sure food waste was minimized and then delivered to those in need.
MEET OUR HUB LEADS
A local Black girl environmentalist volunteers their time to lead each Hub by planning and hosting in-person events that center on joy, inclusivity, education, and community. HUB Leads apply to be part of the HUB Program and then are selected by the BGE Core team. HUB Leads receive an event stipend and a personal stipend to carry out their work.
